Reasons to Have Teeth Pulled
There are a variety of reasons why a tooth may need extracting. Here are a few of the most common reasons:Â
Infection
Sometimes bacteria has entered the tooth and degraded the pulp beyond repair. If antibiotics or other therapies do not work, it may be necessary to remove the tooth.
A Crowded Mouth
Sometimes a patients teeth may be too big for their mouth. This can cause crowding and eventually misalignment of the teeth. Orthodontics may require removal.
Infection Prevention
Sometimes a tooth is extracted if the patient is at a high risk of infection with a compromised immune system (ie. chemotherapy or organ transplant).
