Crowns vs. Bridges

Explore the difference between crowns and bridges.

Dental Crowns

A crown is commonly used to cover a single tooth in order to protect it in the future. Each crown only covers one tooth, but some patients may have several individual crowns.

What To Expect When Getting A Crown

When your dental professional installs a crown on your tooth, you will first getn an anesthetic. This will help drmatically reduce any pain or discofort.

Next, you dentist will remove any pulp from the tooth and will clean the cavity thoroughly. This cleaning helps prepare the tooth for the crown.

Dental impressions of your teeth are taken before before you get a temporary crown attached to the tooth.

A permanent crown is made to fit your exact tooth. This is installed using a special dental cement that will permanently adhere the crown over your tooth.

How Much Do Crowns Cost?

Dental crowns typically average between $500 to as much as $2500 depending on the application of the tooth and the material it is made of. What the patient pays can vary dramatically depending on insurance coverage. To get a more exacting estimate, please call our office.

Dental Bridges

A more affordable alternative to a crown is a  dental bridge. Dental bridges use your health teeth as anchors for porcelain that will support prothetic teeth.

What To Expect When Getting A Crown

When getting a bridge, your dental professional will first provide you with ah local anesthetic to numb any pain or discomfort. Then, they will take impressions of your teeth to map out the placement of the bridge.

You may be given a temporary bridge to wear while your permanent bridge is made.

Once ready, your permanent bridge will be applied to your teeth in a follow-up appointment.

Your dentist will ensure proper fit before you leave the office for a long-lasting, healthy smile.

How Much Do Crowns Cost?
The average cost for getting a dental bridge will be about $700 to $1,500 depending on where in your mouth the bridge will be placed and how many teeth it will be replacing.
Prices for both dental bridges vary by dentist and insurance coverage. For a local estimate, please contact our office.
Maintaining A Healthy Smile

Why Do I Need a
Dental Crown or Bridge?

Dental crowns and bridges are often used to provide patients with an affordable alternative to permanent dental implants.

You may be missing a tooth (or teeth) but have healthy teeth on both sides of the troublesome tooth. In this case, a bridge can hold replacement teeth by attaching to the healthy ones.

A crown acts like a protective cap over a single tooth, typically used after a root canal. Generally, pateitns will recieve a temproary crown after a root canal, and will return in a few weeks to have the permanent crown applied. Most modern crowns can last decades and are custom-fit to your tooth.
