Common Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures
Teeth Whitening
One of the least expensive and simplest ways to improve your smile is by whitening. Over time teeth can become stained (coffee drinkers, unite!) and a whitening procedure can help bring back some of the vivid white of your teeth.Â
There are over-the-counter products that can assist in whitening, but in-office procedures typically provide more dramatic results in a much shorter period of time.Â
Veneers
Dental veneers are super-thin porcelain or resin shells that have been tooth-colored. These are applied to the front surface of the teeth after removing about a half-millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface. enamel. Inlays & Onlays
Sometimes called indirect fillings, inlays and onlays are made from gold, porcelain, or composite materials and fill damaged or decayed teeth. Created in a dental laboratory, these applications are bonded to your teeth. To fill a damaged tooth, the “inlay” is bonded with the center of the tooth. If the filling covers the biting surface or includes one or more points of the tooth, it is called an “onlay.” Unlike a crown or cap, which covers the entire tooth, inlays and onlays are used to preserve as much of the health tooth as possible.Â
Dental Bonding
Dental Bonding is the practice of applying a tooth-colored putty-like resin to the tooth and hardening it with an ultraviolet (UV) or laser light. This durable plastic material can be trimmed, shaped, and even polished.
Dental Bonding can be used to repair chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth and is a good cosmetic alternative to amalgam or silver fillings. Surprisingly, this procedure typically takes less than an hour to complete.
